Rutgers Webinar Series
Sharing Possibilities for Community Connections
Apr 27, 2022 12:00 PM – 1:00pm EDT

Presented by: Bianca Coleman, Licensed Psychologist

Join the Community Living Education Project (CLEP) and Bianca Coleman, Ph.D., NCSP, BCBA-D representing Behavior Therapy Associates, for a one-hour discussion.

First interactions with local police, firefighters or EMS often come during a time of stress or crisis, allowing very little time for explanation or adjustment. Ensuring that conversations, exposure, and information are shared in advance regarding what to expect, potential scenarios, and possible outcomes is paramount in ensuring that both the providers and individuals with ASD feel comfortable and are able to participate in the interaction successfully. This workshop aims to provide helpful strategies for preparing individuals with ASD for scenarios with police, firefighters, or EMS and guidance on sharing information with local agencies about interactions with individuals who have a diagnosis of ASD. Concrete strategies and examples will be shared.
