What is Adjustment Disorder?

Adjustment Disorder is a stress-related condition that occurs when an individual struggles to cope with a significant life change or stressful event. Adjustment Disorder can affect individuals of all ages and may develop in response to events such as moving, job loss, the end of a relationship, illness, or other major life transitions.

Symptoms of Adjustment Disorder

While symptoms vary from person to person, common signs of Adjustment Disorder include:

  • Emotional Distress: Persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, hopelessness, or excessive worry related to a specific stressor.
  • Behavioral Changes: Social withdrawal, difficulty concentrating, or changes in eating or sleeping patterns.
  • Difficulty Coping: Struggling to manage daily responsibilities or experiencing a decline in performance at school or work.

Without proper support, the symptoms associated with Adjustment Disorder can contribute to further emotional distress and difficulties in one’s personal and professional life. However, with the right tools, individuals can learn to manage their stress and regain a sense of control.
