EVALUATIONS
Accommodations for Testing, College, and the Workplace
Comprehensive Evaluations
Access to academic and professional environments should not be limited by unrecognized learning, attention, psychological, or medical challenges. Comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations for accommodations are designed to clarify how an individual’s cognitive, educational, emotional, or functional profile may impact performance in testing, college, or workplace settings.
At Behavior Therapy Associates, these evaluations provide objective documentation that may be required to request accommodations under educational policies, standardized testing guidelines, or workplace regulations. The purpose is not only to identify challenges, but also to highlight strengths and provide practical, individualized recommendations that support equitable access and success.
When an Evaluation for Accommodations May Be Helpful
An evaluation to determine whether accommodations may be appropriate should be considered when an individual experiences ongoing difficulty with exams, timed tasks, written assignments, focus, organization, processing speed, or stress management despite adequate preparation. These evaluations are commonly pursued to support:
- Standardized testing accommodations
- College disability support services
- Graduate and professional school testing modifications
- Workplace accommodations
- Licensing or certification examinations
Under federal protections such as the Americans with Disabilities Act, qualified individuals with documented disabilities may be entitled to reasonable accommodations that allow equal opportunity in testing and employment environments. A comprehensive evaluation can provide the clinical documentation often required to support these requests.
What the Evaluation May Include
Each evaluation is individualized based on the referral question and documentation requirements. The assessment process may include:
- Clinical interview and history review
- Cognitive testing
- Academic achievement assessment
- Attention and executive functioning measures
- Emotional and behavioral assessment
- Review of educational or employment records
At Behavior Therapy Associates, testing procedures are selected carefully to ensure that findings are clinically sound and aligned with the specific accommodation request. The goal is to provide clear, thorough, and defensible documentation.
Reports and Recommendations
Following completion of testing, a detailed typed report is prepared. This report outlines current functioning, diagnostic impressions when appropriate, and specific recommendations for strategies, accommodations, and/or supports. Recommendations are tailored to the individual’s functional needs and may include extended time, reduced distraction environments, assistive technology, flexible scheduling, or other reasonable modifications.
A feedback session is provided to review results, clarify findings, and discuss next steps. Reports remain confidential unless the individual chooses to share them with schools, testing agencies, employers, or other relevant entities.
Preparation for Evaluation
Preparation supports optimal performance during the evaluation process. Individuals are encouraged to maintain regular routines, obtain adequate rest, and follow their usual daily habits unless otherwise directed. For children and adolescents, caregivers may help by explaining that the evaluation is designed to better understand how they learn and function, not to pass or fail a test.
Scheduling and Fees
The cost of a psychoeducational evaluation to determine the appropriateness of accommodations depends on the scope and type of assessment required. Fee schedules are available, and staff can provide guidance regarding payment structure. Because insurance reimbursement varies, individuals are encouraged to contact their insurance carrier directly to understand potential benefits.
