EVALUATIONS

Psychoeducational & Psychological Evaluations

Overview

At Behavior Therapy Associates, psychoeducational and psychological evaluations are comprehensive assessments designed to better understand an individual’s cognitive, educational/academic, emotional, social, behavioral, and daily living functioning. These independent evaluations are conducted by highly experienced licensed psychologists to gather objective information about a person’s strengths and areas of need. By using multiple assessment tools and sources of information, clinicians at Behavior Therapy Associates can develop a detailed understanding of how an individual is functioning across different areas of life.

Psychoeducational, psychological, and neuropsychological evaluations conducted at Behavior Therapy Associates can help clarify challenges that may be affecting performance at school, work, home, or in the community. These evaluations provide valuable insight that can guide recommendations, support planning, and decision-making for individuals, families, and schools.

When a Psychoeducational or Psychological Evaluation May Be Helpful

Individuals and families often seek psychoeducational or psychological evaluations at Behavior Therapy Associates when concerns arise regarding learning, intellectual functioning, social, emotional, behavioral, or overall development. Evaluations may be recommended when there are questions about learning disabilities, intellectual functioning, developmental delays, behavioral concerns, social, or emotional challenges that may be impacting performance at school, work, or daily life.

Clinicians may also examine attention, working memory, information processing, and processing speed. The information gathered during the evaluation can assist with diagnosis, classification, prediction, and the development of effective intervention or treatment plans.

Behavior Therapy Associates' clinicians evaluate people of all ages, including young children, adolescents, and adults. In some cases, these evaluations are needed to determine eligibility for special education services, school accommodations, testing accommodations, or workplace supports. These evaluations may also be conducted to provide documentation for insurance purposes, court-related referrals, or to determine giftedness.

The Evaluation Process

Each evaluation is carefully tailored to the individual and the specific referral question. The procedures and assessment tools selected are based on the information needed to fully understand the individual’s needs.

Psychoeducational and psychological evaluations include an in-office assessment component during which the individual completes a series of testing measures in a one-to-one setting. These assessments are administered by a licensed psychologist.

The evaluation process may involve clinical interviews with the parent, child, adult client, and family members as appropriate, as well as a review of social-emotional and developmental history. Additional components may include behavior rating scales, intelligence testing, academic achievement testing, and assessments of attention, working memory, and processing speed. In some cases, personality testing, play-based assessments, school observations, teacher interviews, and a review of records may also be included.

As part of the evaluation process, clinicians at Behavior Therapy Associates may also gather collateral information from other sources when appropriate. This may include input from treating therapists, medical specialists, and school personnel to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the individual’s functioning.

Results and Recommendations

After the evaluation has been completed, clinicians at Behavior Therapy Associates carefully review and interpret the results. Based on the findings, individualized recommendations are developed to support the individual’s needs.

A comprehensive written report is provided that summarizes the evaluation results and outlines recommendations for next steps. A feedback conference is typically scheduled so that the clinician can review the findings with the parent or adult client and answer any questions. When an evaluation has been arranged by a school, the results may also be shared with appropriate school personnel once written consent has been provided.

The goal of the evaluation process at Behavior Therapy Associates is to provide clear information, meaningful guidance, and practical recommendations that help individuals and families better understand their needs and identify appropriate supports moving forward.
